Why do photos of white men get more attention than men of color?

With Americans' current political climate (in which cis-straight-white America's President-elect and half of our citizens want to keep our souls segregated), I cannot fucking fathom how so many people want this country to contain only white, heterosexual bigots. This democracy-turned-movie in which all of Americans play a cameo reminds me of the movie Predator...an ugly, hateful creature who camouflages itself, mimics positive rhetoric to draw in and confuse the ignorant and, for no good reason at all, uses and re-brands that rhetoric to destroy the lives of the working-class, lgbtq+...

My pre-summer (May) New York vacation this year was, thus far, no less than ideal. I shot and interviewed for The Set Standard's debut feature, ran into and met the talented illustrator Richard Haines outside a Starbucks in Soho, and uncomfortably laughed myself to tears at Comedy Cellar. Now, it's Sunday morning - approximately 1:00am. I stand idly outside of Metropolitan - a bustling gay bar in Williamsburg whose bathrooms have seen more blow than a wind farm. I inhaled my cigarette deeply, slowly...each drag a bandaid for my sporadic social anxiety....

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “you can’t fight fire with fire.” In context, it typically suggests we shouldn’t fight negativity with negativity. When the mean boy in school teased you for playing with a Tamagotchi, your retaliation (kicking him in his mean ‘ol shins) landed you in detention. As an adult, after working your ass off and interviewing for a promotion at your job for which you were qualified to later find out it was offered to your colleague, talking shit about them behind their back lands you in your boss’s office to discuss “ethics and behavior in the workplace.” As...

"Black Lives Matter." A simple phrase, sure, but one that has shown us all via social media, the news, and conversations overheard by the couple at the table text to us that racism is still stronger than ever in our free world. The two sides, ignorantly separated by church and state (and institutionalized racism as a result of the two), passionately express their differences for two very different reasons. Black people and their allies fight for justice, equal rights, and the privilege of not being shot or thrown in jail for being mistaken as someone who has a warrant out for their a...

It’s a few ticks before noon on a Sunday morning. There’s a strong, stale tobacco smell lingering in your hair from the night before. You rub your tongue over your teeth and grimace, as they're still wearing plaque from the countless sugary beverages you consumed. You reach for your phone and wake the screen, hoping to find a text from your friend to piece-together at least a fragment of the preceding evening’s events. About a quarter of Carly Rae Jepson's E•MO•TION album has played as you’ve responded to texts, flipped through awfully hilarious Trump memes, and s...

Since meeting Mister Wallace in 2012, his unapologetic words/poetry and no-bullshit attitude consistently empower me to drive positive change in the world by being myself, speaking my mind, and never apologizing for any of it. A few months back, he released his first EP - FAGGOT. Featuring aceb00mbap, Kiam, and Cakes da Killa, FAGGOT explores sex, empowerment, and acceptance of our queer-as-fuck selves.
